Let winter move in with Nordic Christmas Gnomes – an atmospheric collection in porcelain and crystal glass that combines Nordic tradition with modern design. The collection is based on the popular wool gnomes from Åsa's Gnome Shop – handmade in Småland, a region in southern Sweden known for its craftsmanship and fairytale nature. Since 1993, these charming gnomes have spread joy in homes throughout Scandinavia and far beyond – and now they are being given new life in porcelain and glass.
Meet the whole gnome family: father Verner, mother Vera, children Valter, Viktoria and Viktor – and old gnome Olle. All are illustrated with delicate detail in a winter landscape. The motifs are hand-drawn by artist Anne Rooslien, with small details such as knitted hats and red felt hearts – symbols of warmth and care in midwinter.
The collection is a unique collaboration with Åsas Tomtebod and a careful further development of one of our most beloved winter collections. It retains the craftsmanship and storytelling – inspired by Nordic folklore, where the elf is a protective figure who watches over homes and nature.
The story begins over 30 years ago, when Åsa began creating her first tomtes in a small shed deep in the forests of Småland – each with a mischievous expression, knitted hats pulled down over their noses and lots of personality. Our collection is based on Åsa's Tomtebod original tomtes – inspired by Swedish folklore, where the tomte is a shy but caring guardian of farms and forests. A design language that has spread joy far beyond the borders of Småland and continues to inspire.
The tableware is made of durable European feldspar porcelain and includes everything from plates and side plates to mugs, bowls and serving dishes. The softly rounded shape and warm colours create an inviting table setting – perfect for winter's small and big moments. The motifs are printed in up to 12 colours to reproduce every little detail – from the texture of the hats to the little felt heart. The porcelain is both microwave and dishwasher safe and designed to be loved year after year.
The collection also includes crystal glasses, made in Europe, which enhance the overall look. The larger glasses feature the elf parents in a winter setting, the children adorn the smaller drinking glasses, and little Viktor appears on the schnapps and liqueur glasses – always with his hood askew. The small glass is perfect for Christmas's strong little drinks as an après-ski. We recommend hand washing the glasses to preserve the colour and lustre of the motifs – so that they can be passed down from generation to generation.
